Helicobacter Pylori Infection: Association with Hashimoto’s Thyroiditis

ثبت نشده
چکیده

Auto immune thyroid diseases (ATDS) are represented, essentially, by Hashimoto’s thyroiditis (HT), grave’s disease and atrophic thyroiditis [1]. Atypical marker of HT is the presence of autoantibodies against thyroglobulin and thyroid peroxidase (TPO Abs) [2]. Both genetic and environmental factors are involved in the pathogenesis of ATDS [3]. Some bacteria and viruses are suspected of being able to mimic the antigenic profile on the thyroid membrane and play an important role in the onset of auto immune diseases [4,5].

Association between thyroid autoimmunity and Helicobacter pylori infection

BACKGROUND/AIMS There have been controversial reports linking Helicobacter pylori infection to autoimmune thyroid disease (AITD). However, data regarding the relationship are limited for Asian populations, which have an extremely high prevalence of H. pylori infection. We performed this study to investigate the association between H. pylori infection and AITD in Koreans. METHODS This study in...

Helicobacter pylori infection in women with Hashimoto thyroiditis

An association between Helicobacter pylori (H pylori) infection as environmental risk factors for Hashimoto thyroiditis (HT) has been reported. We investigated this hypothesis in women in which HT is more common. Serum immunoglobulin G antibodies against H pylori (enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay), CagA protein (Western blot assay), circulating antibodies to thyroid antigens, mainly thyroperox...
